Eat, Drink and Shop

Here at Strathallan Guest House we love our high street. There are some wonderful shops and eateries for you to enjoy while you are staying in Grantown on Spey. Here are some of our picks for food, but bear in mind we have lovely home-ware shops, a bookshop, a newly opening antique store, bakeries, the Grantown Dairy, a beautiful florist, bike hire, Museum, Kilt shop, art and craft shop, angling and outdoor wear suppliers, a Walkers Shortbread shop and much more.

The Garth Restaurant on Grantown high street serves fresh and tasty meals inspired by local produce. The staff are friendly and there is a great selection of dishes.

The Craig Bar is a friendly place to visit if you fancy a pint, a great selection of whisky, delicious pies and great cheeky banter. Brilliant if you want a more informal evening meal.

The Grant Arms offers classic dishes in a relaxed atmosphere and you can enjoy a coffee afterwards in their lovely bar too.

The Wee Puffin doesn’t just offer wholesome family food including fish and chips, curries, tasty home made soups and much more. They also have a fantastic collection of Scottish ales for you to sample.

The High Street Merchants offers evening meals at the weekend. With a beautiful modern and bright interior you can enjoy a lovely lunch or light evening meal including some delightful pizzas.

The Number 7 Bistro serves a variety of home cooked fare from tasty seafood chowder to the humble roast dinner.

For lunch, nibbles and snacks you could try the lovely Just Deli-cious on the high street. Also, The High Street Merchants offers teas, coffees and light bites in their shop too. Elephants in the Pantry also offer freshly baked breads, nibbles and coffee to take away.

Boat of Garten (Only 15 minutes’ drive away)

Anderson’s restaurant offers beautifully crafted evening meals. Everything is made on site and you can sample anything from roasted pheasant to sweet potato gnocchi. Their deserts are to die for and you must try their various flavours of ice cream. Booking ahead is essential.

Aviemore (20 minutes’ drive away)

Just a little further down the road from Boat of Garten you have the town of Aviemore. There are other evening meal options available here. But here is a top pick for you.

The Winking Owl is a pub and restaurant recently bought by the Cairngorm Brewery. So you can imagine that there are a massive selection of beers for you to choose from. On top of that they have a simple and varied menu including steak and Cairngorm Ale pie, slow roast pork belly and much more.
